Katie GilbertKatie is a senior studying biology who has been dancing her whole life. She trained in ballet, jazz, and contemporary at Arabesque Studio of Dance, as a member of both the ballet company and the competition teams. She has performed in productions of Coppélia, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and The Nutcracker; competed both solos and group pieces; and choreographed contemporary and character pieces. Katie is so excited to dance with the Penn Ballet Company.

Emma Sondergaard JensenEmma is a senior studying philosophy and bioethics who loves ballet. She is a former pre-professional dancer from the Boston area. She completed her ballet and contemporary training at Boston Ballet School, Koltun Ballet Boston, and Integrate. She studied under Alexander Lapshin, Kristin Wagner, Alexandra Koltun, Carlos Molina, and Erica Cornejo. She competed at the Youth America Grand Prix Boston and in the Finals in New York. She has performed in Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, and over 100 professional Nutcracker productions. Emma has danced in performances with Boston Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Koltun Ballet, and Moscow Ballet.

Clara PapenfuseClara is a senior in the College studying Communication and English. They began ballet at age three in their hometown of Harrisburg, PA. She joined Pennsylvania Regional Ballet at age five, and danced with them to the company level through high school. Clara enjoys classical, contemporary, and modern dance. They have participated in multiple Regional Dance America festivals, and attended the National Choreography Intensive in the summer of 2018. Her senior year she choreographed a piece on her peers. They want to give a special thanks to their teachers Vicky, Erin, Jeff, Sandy, and Lauren. This is her fifth semester with PennBallet, and they are excited to do this show with such a wonderful group of dancers!

Ariella NelsonAriella is a senior studying economics who has been dancing since age three. She studied and performed ballet, tap, lyrical, and jazz at Definitive Dance Studio in Mercer Island, Washington. She choreographed and was a frequent dance soloist in her show choir, Island Sound. At Penn, Ariella also performs with Soundworks Tap Factory and choreographs musicals for various student theater groups. Ariella is also an apprentice dancer with The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble.

Fiona LarssonFiona is a junior in the School of Nursing. She began her ballet training at the Portland School of Ballet at age four, and was a member of their Pre-Professional Division during her high school years, training under Sabir Yapparov. She has attended summer intensives at Interlochen and Bossov Ballet Theatre. She has performed in a variety of productions, including Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and Coppelia. She has also participated in numerous Nutcracker productions over the years. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to continue performing with Penn Ballet.

Gail CalimaranGail is a junior majoring in Chemistry and Health & Societies. She began dancing at the age of four with Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet, where she trained in ballet, contemporary, and jazz under Jennifer Beasley and Erik Kegler. As part of the senior company, she had the opportunity to perform in many productions including Cinderella, the world premier of Frozen Heart by Kristy Nilsson, and, of course, many annual productions of the Nutcracker. She also attended summer intensives at Louisiana Delta Ballet and Ballet Memphis. At Penn, she has had the opportunity to choreograph for various student productions. Gail is so grateful and honored to have been Penn Ballet’s Performance Director for the last two years.

Kaitlyn GreenKaitlyn has trained in classical ballet in both the Balanchine and Vaganova technique, modern, tap, and jazz at Berrend Dance Center under Patricia Berrend, Runqiao Du, Erin Du, Aaron Jackson, Dmitri Malikov, Roger Riggle and Erica Molina-Hudak among others for around 15 years. During her training she has had the opportunity to perform numerous solo and corps roles in Olney Ballet Theatre’s yearly production of the Nutcracker and Bel Cantanti Opera productions of Sadko and Die Schone Mullerin. She also studied various excerpts from Coppélia, Paquita, Sleeping Beauty, Raymond, and Concerto Barocco among others. She is currently a sophomore studying nursing and biochemistry at Penn and is so grateful to continue dancing in her third semester with Penn Ballet!

Emma YaoEmma is a freshman from Vancouver, Canada hoping to study Physics in the College. She began dancing ballet at the age of 8 with her hometown studio, Essence of Dance Inc. She joined the studio’s competitive dance program, Ignite Youth Company, where she performed classical and character ballet pieces at regional dance competitions, conventions, and charity shows. Emma then trained under Xing Liang at the Royal Principal Ballet Academy. She successfully completed RAD examinations up until the Advanced I level and competed at YAGP with variations from Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote. Emma already loves her new Penn Ballet family and is excited to keep dancing with them in the coming years!

Natasha YaoNatasha is a freshman in the College studying International Relations. She started ballet at the age of 5 and trained at Jean M. Wong School of Ballet in Hong Kong and the Olivia Willoughby School of Dance in England. She has performed in a variety of full length productions with the Hong Kong Ballet and JMW Ballet, such as the Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire and more. She performed as the Nutcracker Princess in her school’s adapted version of the Nutcracker as a high school senior. She also has experience in modern contemporary dance from performing with the Avant Garde Dance UK and dancing under Peter Anderson, former artistic programme designer for the National Icelandic Dance Company. Natasha is excited to continue dancing with Penn Ballet!
